Jakarta (Indonesia Window) — Mutual respect, a shared vision, and a long-term commitment to sustainable development have become the foundation of the increasingly strong partnership between Indonesia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE), according to the Ambassador of the United Arab Emirates to Indonesia and Timor-Leste, Abdulla Salem AlDhaheri.
As Indonesia and the UAE prepare to celebrate 50 years of diplomatic relations in 2026, the ambassador said the golden jubilee represents more than a diplomatic milestone as it reflects five decades of trust, cooperation, and a shared commitment to improving the lives of people in both countries.
"Our cooperation with Indonesia has been guided by three core principles: mutual respect, shared vision, and long-term commitment to sustainable development," he said recently.
According to the ambassador, the success of Indonesia-UAE relations lies in a partnership model focused on empowerment rather than dependency.
Over the years, the two nations have collaborated across a wide range of sectors, including humanitarian assistance, healthcare, infrastructure development, education, renewable energy, food security, and climate resilience.
Whether through disaster response initiatives in Indonesia’s main island of Sumatra or support for healthcare services in the country’s Solo city, Central Java province, the UAE has sought to work hand-in-hand with Indonesian partners while prioritizing transparency, partnership, and the protection of human dignity.
"As we celebrate 50 years of diplomatic relations between the UAE and Indonesia in 2026, this golden jubilee offers an opportunity to reflect on a partnership that has flourished because it is grounded in the principle of empowerment rather than mere assistance," Ambassador AlDhaheri said.
The ambassador emphasized that the UAE's approach goes beyond traditional aid programs.
Rather than simply providing assistance, the UAE focuses on helping build sustainable ecosystems that strengthen communities, create opportunities, and enhance long-term resilience.
"In this spirit, the UAE does not simply provide aid; rather, we work alongside our partners to build sustainable ecosystems that strengthen communities and foster long-term resilience," he explained.
This approach, he added, reflects the close bonds of friendship and strategic cooperation that continue to unite Indonesia and the UAE.
In the future, Ambassador AlDhaheri identified several priority areas where Indonesia and the UAE can deepen cooperation, including water resilience, clean energy, climate action, food security, and nature-based solutions.
He noted that effective partnerships are built on national ownership while combining technical expertise, financing, innovation, and measurable impact.
As both countries pursue ambitious sustainability agendas, these sectors are expected to become increasingly important pillars of bilateral cooperation.
The UAE has emerged as a global advocate for sustainable development and climate action, while Indonesia continues to play a key role in regional and international efforts to promote green growth and environmental resilience.
With diplomatic ties entering their fifth decade, Ambassador AlDhaheri expressed optimism about the future of Indonesia-UAE relations.
He said the strong foundation established over the past 50 year positions both countries have been addressing emerging global challenges together while creating new opportunities for economic growth, innovation, and sustainable development.
"The strength of our partnership comes from shared values and a common belief that cooperation can deliver meaningful and lasting benefits for our peoples," he said.
As Indonesia and the UAE approach their golden jubilee in 2026, both nations are looking to build on decades of friendship and strategic cooperation to shape an even stronger partnership for the next generation.
