The rescued leopard reportedly entered a residential area in Gunung Sari Village of Indonesia’s Batang District, Central Java Proince, on Wednesday, August 12, 2026.

Batang, Central Java (Indonesia Window) – The Indonesian Safari Park, locally known as Taman Safari Indonesia (TSI), through its Taman Safari Unit 4 and the Beach Safari Batang facility, participated in the handling of an injured leopard (Panthera pardus melas).

The leopard reportedly entered a residential area in Gunung Sari Village, Bawang Sub District, Batang District, Central Java Province on Wednesday, August 12, 2026.

The evacuation process was carried out in coordination with the Central Java Natural Resources Conservation Agency (locally known as its abbreviation BKSDA)—the competent authority—and elements of the Bawang Sub District Leadership Coordination Forum.

The effort was undertaken to secure the animal while preventing potential conflict with the local community.

During the process, Beach Safari Batang was entrusted by the Central Java BKSDA to provide facility support and medical personnel for the animal's initial care, leveraging its technical resources and the facility's proximity to the incident site.

Dr. Bongot Huaso Mulia, M.Si., VP of Life Science at Taman Safari Indonesia, stated, "based on the initial examination, the animal was found to have an open wound with signs of necrosis (premature cell death) on its front right leg, an injury estimated to have occurred several days prior to the evacuation. The exact cause of the wound is still under further investigation by the medical team".

Currently, the animal is safe at the Beach Safari Batang facility and is undergoing periodic observation to ensure a comprehensive assessment of its health, including checking for any conditions other than the leg injury.

TSI reaffirms its commitment to supporting the conservation and protection of Indonesian wildlife, including through technical involvement in handling animals outside its own operational habitats when requested and entrusted by competent authorities.

The company urges the public not to take self-action if they encounter wildlife in residential areas but to immediately report the matter to the authorities so that a qualified team with the appropriate procedures can handle the situation.

The condition of the animals will continue to be monitored and coordinated with the Central Java Natural Resources Conservation Agency (BKSDA) and other relevant authorities.
