The name ‘Muhammad’ is not merely an ordinary name; it is the name of the Great Prophet of the Muslim faith, who holds the most revered position within Muslim theological belief.

Jakarta (Indonesia Window) - Indonesia’s Jama’ah Muslimin (Hizbullah) has issued a strong protest against a statement made by U.S. President Donald Trump, in which he used the name ‘Muhammad’ as the subject of mockery and a joke during a political campaign speech in Georgia, USA, on October 17, 2026.

A press release from Jama’ah Muslimin on Tuesday (October 20) stated that Donald Trump’s remarks constitute an overt act of insult.

The name ‘Muhammad’ is not merely an ordinary name; it is the name of the Great Prophet of the Muslim faith, who holds the most revered position within Muslim theological belief.

It was previously reported that U.S. President Donald Trump made a joke regarding the name ‘Muhammad’ while campaigning for Republican candidates ahead of the U.S. midterm elections on November 3, 2026.

“You know, if you’re ever in doubt about someone’s name from the Middle East, just call them ‘Mohammad.’ There’s about a 65 percent chance you’ll be right. ‘Hello, Mohammad.’ I’ve been doing it for years. Never been wrong,” Trump said, as reported by Reuters on Saturday, October 17, 2026.

Jama’ah Muslimin further asserted that the U.S. President’s comments were highly inappropriate and unethical, representing a breach of the standards for public discourse.

A head of state—let alone a global figure—has a moral responsibility to be mindful of their words to avoid inciting sentiments related to ethnicity, religion, race, or social groups.

Undeniably, narratives that disparage religious identity serve to destabilize security, fuel violence, and hinder international peace efforts aimed at fostering dialogue between civilizations and achieving global peace.

In light of this, Jama’ah Muslimin urges Donald Trump and his campaign communications team to issue a public apology to the global Muslim community for the distress and hurt caused by such remarks.

“We call upon Muslims worldwide to respond to Donald Trump’s actions firmly, yet with a cool head, great patience, and dignity—in accordance with the guidance of Islamic Sharia,” the Imam of Jama’ah Muslimin (Hizbullah), Imaam Yakhsyallah Mansur, stated.

Jama’ah Muslimin also calls on the international Muslim community to urge global institutions—such as the United Nations and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC)—to remain vigilant and to condemn all forms of religion-based hate speech, particularly that directed toward Islam, whether perpetrated by public officials or any other party in a position of authority.

This initiative serves as an implementation of a United Nations resolution (adopted unanimously by the UN General Assembly on March 15, 2022), which designated March 15 as the International Day to Combat Islamophobia. (Rls/Aat SS).
