Jakarta (Indonesia Window) – Indonesia’s President Prabowo Subianto met his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin at the Kremlin Palace in Moscow on Monday, April 13, 2026, in an effort to enhance cooperation in energy, aerospace and education.

In his introduction, President Vladimir Putin emphasized the importance of President Prabowo's visit in strengthening the strategic relationship between the two countries amidst current global dynamics, the Indonesian Cabinet Secretariat reported on Tuesday.

Putin said he observed that Prabowo’s visit is of great significance and importance, especially given the current situation and developments in the world, as well as in terms of enhancing bilateral cooperation, particularly in the economic sector.

The Russian president stated that the relationship between Indonesia and his country continues to develop consistently and has become increasingly strong, especially following the agreement on the strategic partnership declaration between Indonesia and Russia in 2025.

Putin said that he is very pleased as Indonesia and Russia are implementing steps that add significant meaning and substance to the relationship between the two countries.

The president highlighted the development of economic and trade cooperation, which is one of the main pillars of bilateral relations.

The value of trade between Indonesia and Russia has increased significantly, reaching 12 percent, he noted, adding that at the beginning of this year, Indonesia and Russia experienced a slight slowdown in bilateral trade, but they have various ways to increase it.

“We give great importance to the joint intergovernmental commission, and we hope that in today's meeting, we will have the opportunity to explore various solutions to continue enhancing the partnership between our two countries," he remarked.

On that occasion, Putin emphasized that both countries continue to prioritize strengthening cooperation in several strategic sectors considered key to bilateral relations.

He said that various opportunities for developing cooperation have been intensively discussed by both sides.

"Among other things, we talked about cooperation in the energy sector, aerospace, agriculture, industrial production, and pharmaceuticals. We give great importance to developing cooperation in the humanitarian sector, including education," he explained.

Putin also highlighted the close coordination between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of both countries in various international forums.

Concluding his introduction, President Putin assessed that Indonesia's membership in the BRICS grouping opens new and broader opportunities for strategic collaboration, including within the Eurasian Economic Union.

Indonesia is now a member of BRICS, which opens new opportunities to develop bilateral cooperation. “We can also discuss cooperation with the Eurasian Economic Union," he said.

The meeting affirmed the strong commitment of Indonesia and Russia to move forward not only as bilateral partners, but as collaborative forces in promoting global stability and progress.
