Jakarta (Indonesia Window) – Indonesian Minister of Manpower, Yassierli, is encouraging the exchange of experiences with India in digital talent development, technological innovation, and worker skills improvement.

Yassierli stated that this is related to the development of digital technology, which has brought changes to workforce competency requirements.

This was one of the topics discussed by Minister Yassierli during a bilateral meeting with his Indian counterpart Mansukh Mandaviya, on the sidelines of the BRICS Labor and Employment Ministers' Meeting (LEMM) in Hyderabad, India, Wednesday (July 15).

The minister expressed his appreciation to the Indian Government for successfully organizing a series of BRICS Employment Working Group and BRICS LEMM, which discussed various strategic employment issues, including the future of work, digital transformation, social protection, and skills development.

"Indonesia views India as an important partner in human resource development. As two large developing countries with dynamic economies and large young populations, Indonesia and India have the opportunity to share experiences in building a competitive, inclusive workforce that is ready to face changes in the world of work," the minister said.

During the meeting, Yassierli expressed his interest in learning about India's experience in building a digital ecosystem that plays a role in job creation, skills development, innovation, and technology-based investment.

He expressed interest in learning about the development of data centers, digital infrastructure, and various artificial intelligence (AI) skills enhancement initiatives involving the government, employer organizations, and industry.

"Digital transformation must be accompanied by human resource readiness. Therefore, developing AI talent, strengthening digital competencies, and providing reskilling and upskilling programs are crucial to enable workers to adapt and capitalize on opportunities arising from technological change," he said.

He stated that the exchange of experiences between Indonesia and India can be directed at several priority areas, including increasing the capacity of vocational training instructors in Information and Communication Technology (ICT), AI, and other digital technologies.

In addition to strengthening digital talent, the minister also views the importance of empowering informal workers through skills development, entrepreneurship support, and providing transition pathways to formal employment.

Exchanging experiences on the protection of platform and gig workers is also a priority, particularly regarding labor rights, social protection, and occupational safety and health.

The minister emphasized that Indonesia welcomes opportunities to expand knowledge exchange with India through technical exchanges, expert dialogues, study visits, joint capacity-building programs, and institutional partnerships between ministries and training institutions of both countries.

"Indonesia is committed to strengthening its partnership with India, both bilaterally and within the BRICS framework, to promote decent work, increase labor competitiveness, and build resilient labor market institutions that are responsive to technological transformation," the minister said.
