Russia is ready to build several important infrastructure projects to increase Indonesia's national energy reserves and security.
Jakarta (Indonesia Window) – The Indonesian government gives Russia opportunities to strengthen long-term investment cooperation in the energy sector, encompassing not only energy supply but also strategic investment from Russia in the development of energy infrastructure in Indonesia.
Indonesia’s Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Bahlil Lahadalia, told the media at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta on Thursday, April 16, 2026, that this step is a follow-up to the meeting between Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto and Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow on Monday (April 13).
"Russia is ready to build several important infrastructure projects to increase our national energy reserves and security," said the minister.
The government is also further discussing investment schemes for Indonesia, particularly for refinery and storage projects, which are considered to have high strategic value.
The finalization of these investments still requires several further discussions between the two countries.
"Indeed, some of their investments are ready to come in, but they will have to wait one or two more rounds of finalization with us, specifically regarding refineries and storage," he said.
The minister explained that the planned investments are part of a long-term cooperation scheme, both through government-to-government (G2G) and business-to-business (B2B) mechanisms.
"As this cooperation is long-term, we're engaging in both G2G and B2B. Regarding storage, this is part of the agreement we reached yesterday," he added.
This collaboration is part of the government's strategy to diversify energy sources while strengthening Indonesia's position in facing global dynamics.
By opening investment opportunities from various countries, including Russia, Indonesia strives to ensure sustainable energy sector development and provide optimal benefits to the national economy.
The government emphasized that this step aligns with the principle of an independent and active foreign policy, which is also applied in economic and investment policies, while prioritizing national interests.
"The Indonesian government has always prioritized an independent and active policy, and within that independent and active policy, there is also an independent and active economy. So, we can buy anywhere, as long as we have the commitment with peoples or countries with whom we have collaborated," he said.
With this step, Indonesia is not only securing its energy supply but also accelerating the development of vital infrastructure that is expected to underpin energy independence and future national economic growth.
