Indosat prepares 44 petabyte capacity before year end

Jakarta (Indonesia Window) – A telecommunications provider company, Indosat Ooredoo, has prepared a network capacity of 44 petabytes/PB per day in the face of a surge in communications during the celebrations of Christmas 2021 and New Year 2022.

“The company is ready to go with its customers to fill the year end with a reliable and optimal network, complementing several digital initiatives that have been launched,” Indosat Ooredoo’s director and chief operating officer Vikram Sinha said in a written statement here on Tuesday (Dec. 21).

Indosat Ooredoo predicts an increase in data traffic by 20-25 percent during the year end compared to normal days, with the highest surge expected to occur in the Bodetabek areas (Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, Bekasi), and the provinces of West Java, Central Java, East Java, and North Sulawesi.

The network capacity provided is 44 PB (Petabyte) per day, more than enough to serve peak data traffic with the proliferation of platforms that serve video content.

Entering the beginning of New Year 2021, Indosat Ooredoo has recorded a 10 percent increase in data traffic nationally.

Several network quality improvement actions are carried out to ensure customers enjoy the best digital experience supported by more than 70,000 4G Base Transceiver Stations (BTS).

The company activated a centralized physical command center during Christmas and New Year celebrations to monitor network availability and quality 24/7, supported by an AI/ML (Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning)-based network operation center and automation.

Special tools and dashboards have been set up to monitor the network performance status and customer digital experiences.

The command center also proactively monitors such public spots as recreational areas, main roads, toll roads, rest areas, airports, bus terminals, railway stations, places of worship, and residential areas that are predicted to have a traffic data spike.
