Indonesia establishes Eid al-Adha 1441 Hijri on July 31

Jakarta (Indonesia Window) – The Indonesian Ministry of Religious Affairs has stated that the Eid al-Adha 1441 Hijri celebration falls on the 10th of Dhul Hijjah coinciding with July 31, 2020.

The decision was made at the Isbat (confirmation) Session of the initial determination of 1st of Dhul Hijjah 1441 Hijri led by Religious Affairs Minister Fachrul Razi at the ministry here on Tuesday.

The establishment was based on early month observation (rukyatul hilal) at 84 points throughout Indonesia.

Of that number, the new moon looks clearly at more than 12 points.

In fact, the new moon was visible at 7.82 degrees at an observation point located in Pelabuhan Ratu, Sukabumi District, West Java Province with a moon age of 17 hours, 20 minutes, 37 seconds.

“Based on the moon observations in Indonesia, all are above the horizon. By consensus, 1 Dhul Hijjah 1441 Hijri falls on Wednesday, July 22, 2020,” the Ministry of Religious Affairs noted.

Dhul Hijjah is the last month in the Islamic calendar which is determined based on the circulation of the moon.

In that month the Muslims perform the hajj pilgrimage in the Holy Land of Makkah, and slaughter sacrificial animals.

The Eid prayer is performed on the 10th of Dhul Hijjah for those who do not perform the hajj pilgrimage.
