The Indonesian Consulate in Tawau, in coordination with relevant parties in Malaysia and Indonesia, facilitated the repatriation/deportation process.

Jakarta (Indonesia Window) – A total of 108 Indonesian citizens were repatriated by the Indonesian Consulate in Tawau, Malaysia, on Wednesday (27/12).

The Indonesian citizens, consisting of 105 adult males, two adult females, and one male child, have completed their legal processes and left the Tawau Immigration Detention Depot, the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a written statement on Thursday.

All those Indonesian citizens have undergone verification and data collection as well as obtained a travel document in lieu of passport from the Indonesian Consulate in Tawau.

The majority of deportees are from South Sulawesi (46 people), North Kalimantan (39 people), East Nusa Tenggara (12 people), West Sulawesi (five people), West Nusa Tenggara (two people), Southeast Sulawesi (two people), and Central Sulawesi, East Kalimantan, and East Java, each with one person.

The repatriation was carried out by the Malaysian government because the deportees were involved in various legal cases in the Sabah-Malaysia region, including immigration violations and other criminal cases. The repatriation process used a ferry from Tawau Port, Sabah, to Tunon Taka Nunukan Port, North Kalimantan.

Upon arrival in Nunukan, Indonesian citizens will be further handled by relevant authorities in Indonesia before being returned to their respective hometowns.

The consulate also reminds Indonesian citizens intending to enter or work in the Malaysian territory to always use official channels and comply with applicable laws to avoid legal actions by authorities.
