Secretary General of OECD (the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development), hopes that Indonesia's accession to the organization can help realize strong and inclusive economic growth.

Jakarta (Indonesia Window) – The Indonesian President, Prabowo Subianto, received Secretary General of OECD (the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development), Mathias Cormann, at Merdeka Palace in Jakarta on Thursday (Nov.28).

The meeting discussed Indonesia's economic development and the process of the country's accession to the OECD, according to the Indonesian Cabinet Secretariat in a written statement quoted by Indonesia Window on Sunday.

In his statement after accompanying the President, Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto said that the meeting was a follow-up to the report previously submitted by the OECD Secretary General to the Minister of Finance.

The report stated that Indonesia's economic targets until 2025 were fundamentally on a positive track.

“It was conveyed that the target of the economy in 2025 is fundamentally relatively achievable. So this is in line with the IMF (the International Monetary Fund) and the World Bank," he noted.

Airlangga said that in the meeting the OECD also provided a number of strategic inputs including recommendations related to increasing productivity in various sectors.

Several priority sectors that were the focus of discussion included digitalization, food security, energy security, and other government flagship programs.

"The OECD can provide benchmarking from data from countries covered by the OECD. There are 38 countries there," he explained.

According to the senior minister, at the meeting President Prabowo and the OECD Secretary General also discussed Indonesia's accession process to the OECD which is currently underway.

"Of course later we will see the President's next direction regarding the schedule of Indonesia's next actions related to time targets and others," he added.

On a separate occasion, the OECD Secretary General, Mathias Cormann, said a number of Indonesia's achievements over the past few decades including in terms of positive transformation of the country’s economy.

The OECD Secretary General highlighted Indonesia’s growth over recent decades, particularly in its positive economic transformation, expressing optimism that the country’s accession to the organization would contribute to robust and inclusive economic growth.

“This will also support Indonesia’s aspiration to become a high-income advanced economy by 2045, in line with the 2045 Indonesia Vision agenda,” he said.
