In addition to Australia, Indonesia is also expected to export urea fertilizer to India, the Philippines, Thailand, and Brazil, with a total export commitment of approximately one million tons.

Jakarta (Indonesia Window) – Australian Prime Minister (PM) Anthony Albanese expressed his appreciation for Indonesia's move to begin exporting 250,000 tons of urea fertilizer to Australia initially.

The Australian PM conveyed this appreciation to Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto by phone on Tuesday afternoon (Apr. 21), Indonesian Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya said in a written statement.

In addition to Australia, Indonesia is also exploring the possibility of exporting its fertilizer to several other countries as part of strengthening the country's role in the global supply chain, with a total export commitment of approximately one million tons.

"In the future, some urea fertilizer will also be exported to India, the Philippines, Thailand, and Brazil, with a total export commitment of approximately one million tons," Teddy noted.

On the other hand, the Indonesian government emphasized that export policies are being implemented in a measured manner while maintaining a balance between domestic supply and adequate national production capacity.

Currently, Indonesia’s national urea production exceeds domestic demand.

"According to data from the Minister of Agriculture, total national urea production is 7.8 million tons, while domestic demand is around 6.3 million tons," he said.

With the measure, exports not only add value to the national economy but also ensure the availability of fertilizer for domestic farmers.

"This step is expected to maintain domestic supply security while strengthening Indonesia's contribution to the global market," he said.
