Jakarta (Indonesia Window) – The Napun Gete Dam in Sikka district, East Nusa Tenggara province, was inaugurated by Indonesian President Joko Widodo on Tuesday (Feb. 23).

The dam with a pool area of ​​99.78 hectares is able to accommodate 11.22 million cubic meters of waters.

With that capacity, Napun Gete can provide 300 hectares of irrigation waters, 0.2 cubic meters of raw waters per second, and have the potential for hydroelectric power of 0.1 megawatts.

The third dam in the province, which was inaugurated by the head of state, is also expected to control flooding in downstream areas, and to be developed as a tourist area.

The Napun Gete Dam was built during the 2016-2020 period at a cost of 880 billion rupiahs (about 62.4 million U.S. dollars).

Earlier, the president inaugurated Raknamo Dam in Kupang district and Rotiklot Dam in Belu district.

The government is targeting the construction of seven dams in East Nusa Tenggara.
