Indonesian president meets Pakistani delegation, discusses defense, investment, and support for D8 summit

Pakistani ambassador to Indonesia, Zahid Hafeez Chaudhri, said the meeting between President Prabowo Subianto and his country’s delegation in Jakarta on February 12, 2026, marked the two countries' commitment to strengthening their strategic partnership.

 

Jakarta (Indonesia Window) – Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto received a delegation from the Islamic Republic of Pakistan at the Merdeka Palace here on Thursday, February 12, 2026.

On the occasion, Pakistani Ambassador to Indonesia, Zahid Hafeez Chaudhri, said the meeting marked the two countries' commitment to strengthening their strategic partnership in various fields, from defense to multilateral cooperation.

Zahid Hafeez Chaudhri emphasized that the historically close relationship between the two countries has been existing since before their respective independence.

"Pakistan and Indonesia are two brotherly nations. Historically, we have had excellent bilateral relations. And I am very pleased to say that this relationship between our two nations predates both our countries' independence," Zahid told journalists after the meeting.

Pakistan and Indonesia have been working closely together in various strategic sectors, Zahid said, adding that the momentum of strengthening this relationship has become increasingly visible in recent months.

Zahid described President Prabowo's visit to Pakistan last month as a significant milestone in the bilateral relationship between the two countries.

"Last month, when the President of Indonesia, His Excellency Prabowo Subianto, visited Pakistan, I can say that it was a significant turning point in our already excellent bilateral relationship," he said.

Zahid also explained the increasing frequency of visits by high-ranking officials from both countries, including visits by Indonesian Defense Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin, Minister of Investment and Downstream Development Rosan Roeslani, and Pakistan's Minister of Health, who recently visited Jakarta.

Zahid juga memaparkan intensitas kunjungan pejabat tinggi kedua negara yang semakin meningkat, di antaranya adalah kunjungan Menteri Pertahanan RI Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin, Menteri Investasi dan Hilirisasi yang juga Kepala BPI Danantara Rosan Roeslani, hingga Menteri Kesehatan Pakistan yang berkunjung ke Jakarta beberapa waktu yang lalu.

"And we will soon hold another high-level meeting between Pakistan and Indonesia," he added.

In the context of geopolitics and cooperation in the Islamic world, Zahid emphasized the importance of collaboration between the two countries, which represent more than a quarter of the world's Muslim population.

Regarding defense cooperation, he emphasized that collaboration between the two countries is progressing very well and will continue to be strengthened.

"As I mentioned earlier, Pakistan and Indonesia have excellent cooperation in all areas, including collaboration in the defense sector. We have trained Indonesian Armed Forces officers, and we will continue to enhance our bilateral defense sector collaboration," he said.

The Pakistani ambassador also expressed his country's high hopes for Indonesia's role in the Developing Eight (D8) forum.

He affirmed Pakistan's readiness to support the upcoming D8 summit in Indonesia.

"And we look forward to working with Indonesia for the success of the upcoming summit in Indonesia, and also for the success of the D8 as a cooperative organization among eight developing countries," he said.

The D8 consists of Indonesia, Malaysia, Iran, Egypt, Turkey, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Nigeria.
