Jakarta (Indonesia Window) – The Indonesian and United States governments officially signed the Reciprocal Trade Agreement, titled "Toward a New Golden Age for the US–Indonesia Alliance," in Washington, D.C., on Thursday, February 19, 2026.

"It was jointly signed by both President Prabowo and President Donald Trump. The bilateral meeting between the two leaders lasted for quite a long 30 minutes after the Peace Council this morning," Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto told the media.

The accompanying documents to the agreement were followed up at the office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR) with Ambassador Jamieson Greer. In the agreement, Coordinating Minister Airlangga stated that Indonesia and the United States agreed to strengthen economic cooperation and encourage economic growth.

"One of the agreements establishes a council of trade and investment, thus becoming an economic forum for both countries. This is the result of the reciprocal trade agreement, so all investment and trade issues between Indonesia and the United States will be discussed first within the council of trade if there are any significant increases or issues deemed to disrupt the balance of payments between the two countries," he noted.

Furthermore, the Indonesian senior minister explained that this agreement envisions achieving shared economic prosperity, strengthening supply chains, and upholding the sovereignty of each country.

"So, I emphasize that respecting the sovereignty of each country is part of the signed agreement," he said.

Since President Trump's announcement of the tariff policy in April 2025, the Indonesian government has sent four periodic tariff negotiation letters.

According to Coordinating Minister Airlangga, 90 percent of the documentation sent by the Indonesian government has been met by the United States.

"During that period, Indonesia visited Washington, D.C., four times, held seven rounds of negotiations, and held more than nine in-person and virtual discussions with the USTR or Ambassador Jamieson Greer," said Coordinating Minister Airlangga.
