The development of the 100-gigawatt-peak (GWp) solar power plant capacity will be carried out in stages. In phase I, the Indonesian government targets the construction of 17 GWp of capacity.

Jakarta (Indonesia Window) – Indonesia’s President Prabowo Subianto launched the 100-gigawatt-peak (GWp) solar power plant program and officiated the groundbreaking ceremony in Indonesia’s Gilimanuk area, Jembrana District, Bali Province, on Tuesday (Aug. 25).

The president emphasized that the program represents a major step in national energy development. The solar power capacity to be built totals 100 GWp, whereas Indonesia's current total power generation capacity stands at around 88 gigawatts.

"Indonesia's total electricity capacity is currently 88 gigawatts. From coal, oil, gas, and geothermal—all of that totals 88 gigawatts. We are going to build 100 gigawatts," he stated.

The development of the 100 GWp solar power capacity will be carried out in stages. In Phase I, the government targets the construction of 17 GWp of capacity.

This initial phase involves 14 solar power projects with a total capacity of 5,216 MWp, currently at various stages of progress—ranging from construction, groundbreaking, and inauguration to tender preparation.

The head of state affirmed the government's serious commitment to realizing the program, targeting the development of 100 GWp of national solar power capacity within three years.

"We are not playing around; our target is 100 gigawatts in three years," the president asserted.

The 100 GWp solar power program is being developed through various schemes, including ground-mounted, rooftop, and floating solar power plants.

This development is part of the government's efforts to expand the utilization of new and renewable energy while strengthening national energy security.

The launch of the program marks the beginning of a major government initiative to build national solar energy capacity on a massive and phased scale.

"The Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources has already reported the figures regarding savings and other details, so I will not repeat them—simply to avoid making the speech too long," the president said.
