The France–Indonesia High-Level Business Council brought together 30 industry leaders and leading companies from Indonesia and France with a combined market capitalization of 1.3 trillion US dollars.
Jakarta (Indonesia Window) – The Minister of Investment and Downstream Development/Head of the Investment Coordinating Board, Rosan Roeslani, welcomed the launch of the France–Indonesia High-Level Business Council as a strategic step to strengthen bilateral economic relations and accelerate investment and trade between the two countries.
The high-level business council was launched on May 28, 2026, in the presence of Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto and French President Emmanuel Macron during the former’s official state visit to France.
"The establishment of the France–Indonesia High-Level Business Council is an important milestone in strengthening the economic partnership between the two countries," Rosan said in a statement on May 29, 2026.
He explained that the council not only serves as a forum for dialogue between business actors but also serves as a driving force to encourage investment, trade, and strategic cooperation that is expected to provide tangible benefits for both countries.
The business forum brought together 30 industry leaders and leading companies from Indonesia and France with a combined market capitalization of 1.3 trillion US dollars.
The business council was co-chaired by Antoine de Saint-Affrique, Chair of the France–Indonesia Business Council at MEDEF International and CEO of Danone, and Anindya Bakrie, Chairman of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
Rosan said that the momentum of the business council's launch also resulted in four new commercial agreements worth 3.5 billion US dollars, focused on energy security, trade, and defense cooperation.
"The French business community's trust in Indonesia continues to grow. The agreement reached demonstrates that Indonesia is viewed as a strategic partner with long-term growth prospects and an increasingly competitive investment climate," Rosan said.
According to Rosan, the business council will also play a crucial role in overseeing the implementation of various previously agreed upon memorandums of understanding and investment commitments.
During President Macron's state visit to Indonesia in May 2025, 27 memoranda of understanding were signed, worth more than 11 billion US dollars.
"Equally important is ensuring that all commitments can be realized. Therefore, this forum will serve as a means to identify obstacles, accelerate the resolution of various constraints, and ensure optimal investment," he said.
The Indonesia–France Business Council targets a three-fold increase in total trade between the two countries by 2035.
With the full support of the Indonesian and French governments, the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry and MEDEF International will continue to strengthen bilateral economic corridors to open up new opportunities for cooperation in various strategic sectors.
"We are optimistic that the economic relationship between Indonesia and France would become even stronger. Collaboration between the government and the business world is key to creating sustainable growth, creating jobs, and strengthening the competitiveness of both countries amidst the dynamics of the global economy," Rosan said.
