
Sumatra flood death toll rises to 1,167, 165 missing as of January 4 morning

The number of flood victims in Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra as of January 4, 2026 morning, has risen to 1,167 deaths, 165 missing, and 257,800 displaced.
Jakarta (Indonesia Window) – Indonesia’s National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) reported that the number of flood victims in Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra as of January 4, 2026 morning, has risen to 1,167 deaths, 165 missing, and 257,800 displaced.In Aceh, the number of flood victims was 540 deaths, 31 missing, and 233,000 displaced. In North Sumatra, 365 people died, 60 were missing, and 13,900 were displaced. In West Sumatra, 262 people died, 74 were missing, and 10,800 were displaced.The BNPB also reported that 215 health facilities were damaged. The disaster also affected 3,188 educational facilities, 803 houses of worship, 81 roads, and 34 bridges.In addition, the BNPB reported that 178,479 houses were damaged.
