Jakarta (Indonesia Window) – The Indonesian Ambassador to Tunisia, Zuhairi Misrawi, accompanied by the Chair of the Indonesian Student Association (PPI) in Tunisia and a lecturer at the Hadith Expert at the University of Zaitunah (‘Umar Shibli), met the invitation of Radio Zaitunah, one of the most popular radio stations in Tunisia on June 23.
“I was asked to explain the history and development of Islam in Indonesia and the moderation of Islam which has become the mainstream in Indonesia,” Ambassador Zuhairi Misrawi said in a statement released by the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Tuesday.
“The faces of Muslims who always smile and are friendly to everyone are a positive impression, which makes ulamas (Muslim scholars) in Tunisia want to know more about education and the practice of Islam in Indonesia,” said the Indonesian Ambassador, who is an alumnus of Al-Azhar University in Egypt.
In the live broadcast, he also explained about the big role of Islamic boarding schools throughout Indonesia and the influence of books by progressive Tunisian clerics such as Ibn Ashur that made Islam in Indonesia have a character that is always friendly, polite and moderate.
