Jakarta (Indonesia Window) – The vaccination against COVID-19 in Indonesia has reached the target of one million doses per day, Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin said.

"We have met the target of one million doses of injections several times. I observe that we have reached one million doses three days with the highest peak at 1.5 million doses per day," he said in a virtual meeting with legislators on Monday.

"We reached the first 10 million doses in eight weeks, the second 10 million in four weeks, and now we have reached the third 10 million in two weeks," he noted.

The Health Ministry continues to increase the coverage of COVID-19 vaccination by expanding the target for children aged 12 to 17 years old.

The vaccination in children is carried out under coordination of the National Agency of Drug and Food Control and the National Immunization Expert Advisory Committee, said Budi.

Data from the COVID-19 Task Force on Sunday (July 4) showed that 13,979,564 people had received the full doses of COVID-19 vaccination.

Meanwhile, the number of the first doses of the COVID-19 vaccine recipients was 32,063,745 people.

The government plans to vaccinate 181.5 million people or about 70 percent of Indonesia's population in order to achieve herd immunity against the disease.

In the first and second stages of the national COVID-19 vaccination program, the government targeted 40,349,049 people, including health workers, public service workers, and the elderlies.

The target of the vaccination program has been extended to elderly (over 50 years old), people aged 18-49 years old, and children aged 12-17 years old.
