Jakarta (Indonesia Window) – A total of 400.5 million doses of vaccine against the coronavirus, out of a target of 450 million, have been injected into Indonesian people as of Wednesday (Apr. 27), according to the Committee for Handling COVID-19 and National Economic Recovery.

The achievements consist of 199 million or 95.63 percent of the first doses, 164.5 million (79 percent) of the second doses, and 36.8 million (17.68 percent) for the third vaccination or booster doses, a spokesperson for the COVID-19 at the Health Ministry Siti Nadia Tarmizi said in a written statement received in Jakarta, Thursday (Apr. 28).

She said the elderly over 60 years old belong to the group that is prioritized to be vaccinated, because they are the most vulnerable to being exposed to COVID-19, with a high risk of death.

So far, the vaccination coverage for the elderly for the first doses reached 17.5 million (81.66 percent), the second doses were recorded at 13.9 million (64.74 percent), and the third doses were 3.7 million (17.22 percent).

Nadia added that a number of strategies have been carried out to accelerate the rate of vaccination for the elderly by opening vaccination centers throughout Indonesia.

"Vaccination centers make it easier for the elderly to get vaccinations closest to places where they live," she said.
