Indonesia, Apple explore opportunity to develop manufacture, technology investment

The delegation of Apple (an American multinational corporation and technology company) paid a visit to Indonesian President Joko Widodo at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, on Wednesday (April 17).

 

Jakarta (Indonesia Window) – Indonesian President Joko Widodo welcomed the delegation of Apple (an American multinational company and technology company) at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, on Wednesday (April 17).

The meeting focused on exploring Apple’s strategic plans, including opportunities for the company’s expansion in Indonesia and deeper integration into global supply chains, according to the Indonesian Cabinet Secretariat.

“The president and we received the CEO of Apple, Tim Cook, to discuss the company’s strategic plans in Indonesia which is also expected to become part of the global supply chain,” Minister of Communication and Information Budi Arie Setiadi told the press after the meeting.

Meanwhile, Minister of Industry Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita said that Apple plans to add a fourth Apple Developer Academy as an investment in Indonesia.

According to Agus Gumiwang, there are now three facilities of Apple Developer Academy in Surabaya (East Java province), Batam (Riau Islands province) and Tangerang (Banten province).

“They announced yesterday (April 16) that they would add one more facility in Bali. And this would be the fourth facility of Apple Developer Academy based on an agreement between Indonesia and Apple,” the minister of industry said.

During the meeting with the delegation of Apple, President Widodo encouraged the company to create a manufacturing factory in the country, he said, adding that a number of Apple device components have been ready in Indonesia.

“Following the visit to the Ministry of Industry, there will be a business matching process. We already have a list of what components, cellphone components that have been produced in Indonesia,” he said.

Agus Gumiwang further said that the president invited Apple to form an innovation center that collaborates with the best universities in Indonesia for human resource development.

This is what Tim Cook really wants to follow up on. “Earlier we also discussed how we develop human resources in Indonesia through Apple,” he said.

On the same occasion, Apple’s CEO Tim Cook said that he was happy with the performance of the three facilities of Apple Developer Academy that already exist in Indonesia.

Tim Cook explained that his side is opening the fourth facility of Apple Developer Academy in Bali, that he announced it on April 16.

The Apple CEO pointed out that he was very happy with the performance of the three existing Apple facilities, that have graduated thousands of people and are able to create applications for the Apps Store that are attractive not only domestically but also abroad.

Apple would consider President Widodo’s request to build an Apple manufacturing factory in Indonesia, he said, adding that the country is considered as an important market for Apple and has a lot of potentials with interesting places for investment.
