
Indonesian government suspends access to Grok App

Indonesia’s Minister of Communication and Digita,l Meutya Hafid, provided information regarding the suspension of access to the Grok app, in Jakarta on Saturday (January 10, 2026). (The Indonesian Ministry of Communication and Digital)
The Grok app has been suspended by the Indonesian government to protect women, children, and the entire community from the risk of deepfake pornographic contents.
Jakarta (Indonesia Window) – The Indonesian government through the Ministry of Communication and Digital, has temporarily cut off access to the Grok app to protect women, children, and the entire community from the risk of deepfake pornographic contents using artificial intelligence technology.The government considers the practice of non-consensual sexual deepfakes as a serious violation of human rights, dignity, and the security of citizens in the digital space, the Ministry of Communication and Digital said on its website, as quoted by Indonesia Window on Sunday.The ministry has also requested Platform X to immediately provide clarification regarding the negative impacts of using Grok.The access termination action is carried out based on the authority of the Ministry of Communication and Digital, as stipulated in Ministerial Regulation Number 5 of 2020 concerning Private Electronic System Providers, specifically Article 9, which requires every Electronic System Provider to ensure that the electronic systems they manage do not contain, facilitate, or disseminate prohibited electronic information and/or electronic documents.Reporting by Indonesia WindowBagikan
