Taiwan strengthens relations with Indonesia, promotes collaboration in AI era

Taiwan strengthens relations Indonesia by promoting collaboration in AI, trade, and education.
Jakarta (Indonesia Window) — The celebration of the 114th National Day of the Republic of China (Taiwan) in Jakarta on Tuesday (Oct 7) was warm and filled with a spirit of friendship.In his opening remarks, Representative of the Taipei Economic and Trade Office (TETO) in Indonesia, Bruce Hung, emphasized Taiwan's commitment to continuing to strengthen relations with Indonesia in various fields, from trade and education to future technology."Taiwan and Indonesia have forged a close friendship in many sectors, including trade, investment, education, and strong people-to-people ties," Hung said.Center of the global AI revolutionAmbassador Hung highlighted the rapid development of artificial intelligence (AI) technology, which is now dominating the world, and Taiwan's strategic position at the heart of the global semiconductor industry."It's hard to imagine life without semiconductors. Taiwan is at the center of the AI revolution," he said.He cited COMPUTEX Taiwan as concrete evidence of Taiwan's role on the global technology map. This year, US technology giant Nvidia even announced plans to build its headquarters and first AI supercomputer in Taipei, further strengthening Taiwan's position in the global high-tech ecosystem.A key partner for IndonesiaIn his speech, Ambassador Hung also emphasized that Taiwan is now Indonesia's 10th-largest trading partner, with bilateral trade reaching nearly 11 billion U.S. dollars by 2024.Furthermore, relations between the two sides are also growing socially closer. More than 320,000 Indonesian migrant workers and 18,000 students of the country currently reside in Taiwan."The vibrant Indonesian community in Taiwan demonstrates that Taiwan is a welcoming place to work and study," he noted,Citing the vision of Taiwanese President Lai Ching-te and Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung, Ambassador Hung outlined the new direction of Taiwan's foreign policy, called Value-Based Diplomacy and Integrated Diplomacy, both emphasizing global cooperation based on democracy, peace, and shared prosperity."As an active and responsible member of the global community, Taiwan wants to share its expertise in healthcare, agriculture, and semiconductor manufacturing," Hung explained.He is optimistic that Indonesia can also become a leader in the region through mutually beneficial collaboration.Reporting by Indonesia WindowBagikan
