Jakarta (Indonesia Window) - The National Planning and Development Agency (Bappenas) has stated that between 2030 and 2040, Indonesia is expected to experience a demographic bonus period, i.e. the population of productive ages (15-64 years) is greater than that of unproductive ages (under 15 years) and over 64 years).

As the population continues to grow without certain availability of living resources, demographic bonus which actually gives benefits can burden the country.

Therefore, on a working visit to Sydney on 6-7 October 2019, Sri Sultan Hamengkubuwono X had the opportunity to meet with Indonesian students who are studying in Australia and invited them to face the challenges of demographic bonus and make it an advantage.

"Indonesia currently has a challenge on how to turn a demographic bonus into an economic opportunity and profit. I hope that Indonesian students in Australia can contribute in converting the demographic bonus into something positive for Indonesia," said Sri Sultan who is also the Governor of Indonesia’s special region of Yogyakarta.

According to Sri Sultan, without proper education the demographic bonus can be a burden.

"Therefore, the students take advantage of the opportunity to study in Australia to gain as much knowledge, expertise and experience as possible," said Sri Sultan.
