Jakarta (Xinhua/Indonesia Window) – The National Library of Indonesia received a donation of 100 books from 11 Chinese publishing houses during a handover ceremony held here on Saturday (Oct. 3).
The books, including the English edition of the first volume of “China's Governance Under Xi Jinping's Leadership," have undergone a selection and curation process by the national library in accordance with its collection development principles, the library said in a press release, adding that the curation process took into account users' needs, accessibility, relevance, subject diversity, and suitability as sources of reference.
Wang Siping, cultural counselor of the Chinese Embassy in Indonesia, said at the event that the donated books cover a wide range of fields, including Chinese culture, history, literature, science and technology, and language learning, representing a carefully selected cultural gift from China's publishing sector.
As these books take their place in the National Library of Indonesia, they will open a new window for Indonesian readers to learn about China, while adding fresh resources for exchanges between the intellectual and academic communities of the two nations, Wang said.
For his part, Director of the National Library of Indonesia E. Aminudin Aziz emphasized that the collection should not be seen merely as an addition to the library's holdings, but also as an effort to broaden the public's access to knowledge.
The library will work closely with the donors to complete the handover and process the collection, so the public can access the books early on, Aziz said.
The director said he also sees this event as an opportunity to explore further cooperation, such as exchanges of publications, discussions with authors and publishers, and sharing professional experience in collection development and library services.
