Jakarta (Indonesia Window) – South Korea will import 120,000 tons of urea every year from Indonesia for the next three years.

It was established in a memorandum of understanding between Indonesian Minister of State-owned Enterprises Erick Thohir and South Korean Minister of Industry Moon Sung-wook, which was signed on Tuesday (Dec. 7).

The signing of the document was witnessed by Indonesian Ambassador to South Korea Gandi Sulistiyanto Soeherman and South Korean Ambassador to Indonesia Park Tae Sung.

Since last October, South Korea has had a shortage of urea, which is an important component for diesel-powered vehicles to reduce emissions.

Korea considers Indonesia as a reliable partner in meeting the demand for urea because the volume of urea production in the country is quite large.

In addition, the strong bilateral economic cooperation and the relatively close geographical location between the two countries are strong reasons for South Korea to import urea from Indonesia.

Based on the agreement, the first shipment of 10,000 tons of urea will be made in mid-December 2021.
