Sentul, West Java (Indonesia Window) – Ambassadors and representatives from MIKTA member countries—Mexico, Indonesia, South Korea, Turkiye, and Australia—visited the Indonesian Peacekeeping Mission Center in Indonesia’s Sentul area, Bogor District, West Java Province, on Saturday (Aug. 22).
The visit served as an occasion to pay tribute to the Indonesian peacekeeping personnel who lost their lives while carrying out their duties on a United Nations (UN) mission.
This tribute followed the deaths of Indonesian personnel serving with the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) in March 2026.
MIKTA Foreign Ministers had previously strongly condemned the incident and extended their condolences to the victims' families and the Indonesian government.
In a joint statement, MIKTA nations affirmed that attacks on UN peacekeepers and humanitarian workers are unacceptable and constitute a violation of international law.
The event, organized in collaboration with the Indonesian National Armed Forces (locally known as its abbreviation TNI), also included an observation of pre-deployment training for Indonesian peacekeeping personnel.
Australian Ambassador to Indonesia Rod Brazier stated that peacekeepers and humanitarian workers play a vital role in protecting civilians and fostering stability in conflict zones.
"Peacekeepers and humanitarian workers play a crucial role in protecting civilians and fostering stability," Rod Brazier said.
He noted that the tribute honored the courage and sacrifice of peacekeepers carrying out their duties amidst increasingly complex security situations.
Ambassador Denny Abdi—Secretary-General and Acting Director General for Multilateral Cooperation at the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs—emphasized that the safety and security of peacekeeping forces are non-negotiable.
“An attack on them is an attack on the principles of international humanitarian law upheld by the international community,”Denny stated.
Denny further said that concrete cooperation among MIKTA members is necessary to translate political commitments into operational measures.
According to him, such measures serve as a foundation for restoring trust in multilateral institutions while simultaneously driving global governance reform.
MIKTA , which is a cross-regional forum comprising middle-power nations: Mexico, Indonesia, South Korea, Turkiye, and Australia, seeks to strengthen cooperation in addressing various global issues.
As the MIKTA Chair, Australia works with other member states to uphold international humanitarian principles and strengthen the global humanitarian system.
