Jakarta (Indonesia Window) – The United States (US) and Israel are attacking Iran to overthrow the government and destroy the country's nuclear weapons, Prof. Hikmahanto Juwana told Indonesia Window in a written interview on Sunday (March 1).
The United States and Israel are fighting Iran, initiated by the zionist on February 28, 2026, to change the government and the destruction of nuclear weapons, according to Prof. Hikmahanto, rector of Jenderal Achmad Yani University (Unjani) in Indonsia’s Cimahi City, West Java Province.
"Currently, Ali Khamenei has been killed. Let’s see whether Iran would be more militant in its retaliatory attacks or surrender," said Prof. Hikhanto, who is also a prominent Professor of International Law at the Faculty of Law, University of Indonesia.
Regarding the Board of Peace (BoP) led by United States President Donald Trump, the board’s role should be maximized, and the press should be able to request an emergency session from the head of the body to resolve the war against Iran.
According to Prof. Hikmahanto, given Donald Trump's unpredictable style, which frequently violates international law and imposes his will on other countries, especially weaker ones, Indonesia should withdraw from the BoP.
Regarding Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto's wish to mediate in efforts to resolve the Iran-US/Israel conflict, Prof. Hikmahanto opined that the president should not do so at this time.
He explained that with the death of Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, the US and Israel feel the war is over and no longer requires a mediator.
"But if the death of Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei makes Iran even more militant and leads to attacks and the war would continue for a long time, then a mediator may be needed to make the conflicting parties not lose face, allowing the war to end without determining who wins or loses," he expounded.
The Iranian Embassy in Jakarta said on Sunday (March 1) that US hostility towards Iran is nothing new, in fact it has roots going back seven decades.
U.S. intervention, aggression and hostility towards Iran began with the August 19, 1953 coup that overthrew the government of Dr. Mohammad Mossadegh, prime minister at the time.
Furthermore, the US carried out a number of offensive actions against Iran, including imposing political and economic sanctions in the early days of Iran's Islamic Revolution in 1979, the assassination of one of Iran's senior military commanders on the direct orders of President Donald Trump in January 2020 in Baghdad (Iraq), and support for attacks by Israel against the Consulate of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Damascus, Syria, in April 2024.
Another U.S’ action taken against Iran was hijacking the peaceful protests of the Iranian people in January 2026 into violent riots, causing the deaths of 3,117 people.
