Jakarta (Indonesia Window) – President Joko Widodo has said that the potential of Indonesia's digital market by 2025 could reach 146 billion U.S. dollars or around 2,092 trillion rupiahs.

In 2021, the potential for the digital market in the country would increase by 49 percent, to approximately 70 billion dollars and is estimated to increase to 146 billion dollars in 2025, the head of state said when inaugurating the Digital Generation Acceleration Movement here on Wednesday (Dec. 15).

According to the president, the potential for Indonesia's digital market in 2019 was 40 billion dollars, then it increased in 2020 to 47 billion dollars.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, the digital economy is growing fast due to the increasing need for people to shop safely by minimizing physical contacts with others.

The president said during the pandemic, the national logistics services grew by 60 percent due to increased goods delivery services and online shopping activities (e-groceries).

Meanwhile, new digital consumers also rose 10.2 percent, and electronic money (e-money) transactions rose 55 percent as of October 2021.

President Joko Widodo said Indonesia needs to prepare its digital economy development strategy so that it would not lag behind other countries.

"We don't have much time to catch up with. This country will progress if we can make a leap, and the most difficult ones are how to prepare digital talents and bring in good qualified mentors," he said.
