
Indonesia still studying to join BRICS

Indonesian President Joko Widodo has emphasized that the government will still review and consider Indonesia's participation in becoming a member of the BRICS group (Brazil, Russia, India, China and and South Africa). (The Indonesian Cabinet Secretariat)
Indonesian President Joko Widodo said his country's relations with the member countries of the BRICS group are currently considered very good, especially in the economic field.
Jakarta (Indonesia Window) – Indonesian President Joko Widodo has emphasized that the government will still review and consider his country's participation to join the group of BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa).President Widodo made the remarks after attending the 15th BRICS Summit which was held at the Sandton Convention Center, Johannesburg, Republic of South Africa, on Thursday (24/8), the Indonesian Cabinet Secretariat said in a written statement quoted by Indonesia Window, Friday."We want to study it first, calculate it first. We should not be in a hurry," the Indonesian president pointed out.According to Jokowi, Indonesia's relations with the member countries of the BRICS group are currently considered very good, especially in the economic field.The process to become a new BRICS member includes submitting a letter of expression of interest, according to the head of state, saying that Indonesia has yet to submit the letter.“The requirement to become a new BRICS member is that a country must submit a letter of expression of interest.
