Indonesian nationals who have returned to their homeland from Sudan will stay at the Pondok Gede Hajj Dormitory in East Jakarta for further treatment by relevant ministries/institutions before being returned to their respective areas of origin.

Jakarta (Indonesia Window) – As many as 100 Indonesian nationals returned to their homeland from Sudan on Tuesday using flag carrier Garuda Indonesia in the fourth phase of evacuation from the country in Northeast Africa.

Earlier, the Indonesian government had succeeded in returning 829 Indonesian citizens via Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, in three stages.

The first stage evacuation returned 385 people using Garuda Indonesia that arrived on April 28; the second stage sent 363 people home by the same airline which landed on April 30; and the third stage brought 75 people home with Indonesian Air Force aircraft which arrived on May 1.

Meanwhile, there were six Indonesian citizens who returned by themselves. With the fourth round of evacuation, as many as 929 Indonesian citizens have returned to their homeland.

Indonesian nationals who have returned to their homeland from Sudan will stay at the Pondok Gede Hajj Dormitory in East Jakarta for further treatment by the relevant ministries/institutions before being returned to their respective areas of origin.

As of today (May 2), a total of 949 Indonesian citizens who were successfully displaced from conflict areas in Sudan to their homeland, consisting of 930 people evacuated via Jeddah, 13 people via Egypt, and six people evacuated via the United Arab Emirates.

The military conflict in Sudan between the Sudan Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces occurred on April 15, 2023.

This conflict threatened the security situation in the country, pushing the Indonesian Embassy in Khartoum declared an alert status on April 16, and with the escalation of the conflict, on April 20, the status raised to a higher alert status.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Sudan stated that the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) had managed to neutralize the rebels, forced a large number of rebels to surrender, and disbanded the Rapid Support Force (RSF).
