Jakarta (Indonesia Window) – The Indonesian Ministry of Religious Affairs has set 1 Dhul Hijjah 1443 Hijri on Friday, July 1, 2022, so that Eid al-Adha will fall on Sunday, July 10, 2022.

"The isbat (determination) meeting has reached an agreement that the date of 1 Dhul Hijjah in 1443 Hijri is set to fall on Friday, July 1, 2022," Deputy Minister of Religious Affairs Zainut Tauhid Sa'adi said after chairing the session of Dhul Hijjah, in a press statement received here on Wednesday.

He explained that the decision was made based on the observation of the hilal (moon) at 86 points throughout Indonesia, and was followed by an isbat session.

The isbat session, which was held online and offline, began with the presentation of the position of the new moon by a member of the Hijri Calendar Unification team of the Indonesian Ministry of Religious Affairs, Thomas Djamaluddin.

The initial isbat session of Dhul Hijjah 1443 Hijri which was held at the HM Rasjidi Auditorium at the Indonesian Ministry of Religious Affairs was attended by Chairman of the Indonesian Parliament’s Commission VIII Yandri Susanto, Chairman of the Indonesian Ulemas Council (MUI) Abdullah Jaidi, representatives of the Supreme Court, the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), and several ambassadors of fellow countries.

Representatives of the Geospatial Information Agency (BIG), Bosscha Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB), astronomy experts from Islamic organizations, related institutions and agencies, leaders of Islamic organizations, and representatives of Islamic boarding schools also attended the isbat session.
