Jakarta (Indonesia Window) – The Indonesian Embassy in Tokyo inaugurated the Nishio Darussalam Community Learning Center in Nishio-city, Aichi-ken, Nagoya on Sunday (Apr. 4), and it is the first Indonesian center in Japan.

"The Indonesian Embassy in Tokyo is committed to strengthening the expansion and distribution of access to education, as well as improving the quality of primary and secondary education for Indonesian citizens in Japan," said Indonesian Ambassador to Japan Heri Akhmadi.

According to the ambassador, the learning center will organize primary and secondary education services, and/or other life skill trainings that are needed by the Indonesians.

The participants will receive three main educational subjects, namely religion and character building, Pancasila (the Indonesian national philosophy) and citizenship, and the Indonesian language.

Earlier, on February 24, 2021, the Indonesian Embassy in Tokyo had also signed a cooperation with the Surabaya State Electronics Polytechnic (PENS) on Distance Education collaboration.

The program opens access to education for Indonesian migrant workers whose number has been up to 36,000 people, and most of whom are still interns (Kenshusei).

Based on Japanese immigration data, as of June 2020, the total number of Indonesian citizens in the country was recorded at 66,084 people.

They are found across 47 prefectures, with the highest concentration in Aichi Prefecture with 6,991 people, followed by Tokyo (5,450), Ibaraki (4,226), Kanagawa (4,044), Osaka (3,739), Shizuoka (3,489) and Saitama (3,433).
