Jakarta (Indonesia Window) – Indonesia’s state-owned oil and natural gas corporation, or so-called Pertamina through its subsidiary Pertamina Hulu Energi Offshore Southeast Sumatra has discovered oil and gas reserves in Jakarta’s offshore area of Seribu Islands.

The Pertamina Upstream Sub holding Exploration’s Director Medi Kurniawan said the findings came from the Fanny-2 well located in the OSES Block Central Business Unit (CBU) District, in the Angel Cluster exploration complex area, located about two kilometers west of Sebira island.

"The discovery of oil and gas from the Fanny-2 well proves that there are new ideas and enthusiasm in working on such old oil fields as the OSES Block," said Medi in a statement here, Tuesday (Aug. 17).

On March 13, 2021, Pertamina began drilling the Fanny-2 well, which was completed three months later on June 24, 2021.

Medi explained that the drilling was aimed at confirming the amount of the oil and gas resources in the Fanny structure.

The oil and natural gas were found in the sandstone layer of the Talang Akar Formation. A test carried out on the Lower Zelda Layer 44 (DST#2) indicated flowing gas of 4.95 MMSCFD (Million Standard Cubic Feet Per Day).

In addition, Pertamina also found 241 BCPD (Barrels of Condensate Per Day) condensate at choke openings 28/64, as well as oil from the circulation process to the surface in the Middle Zelda Layer in DST#3.

"The discovery of the Fanny-2 well is expected to be followed by other successful drillings in the next exploration wells. There are still three prospects, namely, Nani, Villani, and Tati, in the Angel Cluster area whose business processes will be accelerated, with a drilling target in 2022-2023," explained Medi.

Exploration in the Angel Cluster is one of Pertamina's priorities in the Java region so that undeveloped resources in this area could be immediately monetized and contribute to oil and gas production of the national company.
