Tangerang, Banten (Indonesia Window) – The herbal treatment clinic of Tabib (healer) Rochi located in Indonesia’s Bogor city, West Java province, applies a holistic method in treating patients with various complaints.

“Holistic therapy in treating these patients means that patients are not only given herbal medicine, but we also give them understanding about the importance of changing their lifestyle and mindset to be healthy,” said the founder of the Rochi Educare Herbalist School and Rochi Traditional Therapy Clinic, Tabib Rochi, in a special interview here, recently.

He added that by adopting good and healthy habits, the entire treatment process is expected to be carried out completely until the patients recover, and can then maintain their health.

Regarding physical health, the herbal treatment therapist who graduated from the Bogor Institute of Agriculture (locally known as its abbreviation IPB) explained that the human body has been ‘equipped by Allah (ﷻ) with two important mechanisms, namely detoxification and immunity.

These two mechanisms enable the body to ‘heal itself’, both from attacks by living pathogens such as viruses, bacteria, fungi, and dead pathogens originating from outside the body, such as substances in processed foods, he said.

Detoxification or often abbreviated as detox is the process of removing toxins from the body, while immunity is the body’s ability to fight harmful microorganisms or protect the body from external biological influences by recognizing and killing pathogens.

“Sometimes these two systems are weakened by the patient’s illness,” said healer Rochi, emphasizing that herbal medicine works in the body by strengthening these two important mechanisms.

According to him, this is different from non-natural chemical drugs. “Chemical drugs do not strengthen these two things. Chemical drugs focus on the disease. Therefore, medical doctors (phycisians) must diagnose precisely what the patient’s illness is. Chemical drug therapy also only treats symptomatically, by manipulating the body’s physiology, such as enduring pain.”

“Herbal medicine is simpler. If the diagnosis is incorrect, herbal medicine can strengthen the body’s detoxification and immunity abilities, so that the patient can still recover from their illness. Just take herbs that have immunomodulatory or immunobooster effects. In addition, diseases can be cured because there is detoxification for free radicals, thus relieving stress on the body’s organs. Chemical drugs do not have this function,” explained healer Rochi.

He further said that almost all herbal plants have natural antioxidant content to cleanse various toxins in the body, stimulate immunity, and are anti-inflammatory.

“The difference is only in the high or low levels. So, herbal medicine works synergistically, namely curing diseases and improving the health function of the body,” he noted.

He gave examples of several typical Indonesian herbal plants that have long been widely known by people and are consumed in the forms of herbal drinks, namely temulawak, ginger, and kencur (aromatic ginger).

“Temulawak and ginger can treat pain in the digestive system, because they can reduce pain, bloating, nausea. Both are also high antioxidant ingredients, while temulawak can increase immunity,” explained healer Rochi who also has a master’s degree in pharmacy from a private university, Pancasila University.

Meanwhile, to overcome coughs and diseases of the respiratory system, healer Rochi recommends consuming kencur and ginger. “Kencur and ginger contain powerful antioxidants and anti-toxins, and can increase immunity and stamina.”
