Jakarta (Indonesia Window) – Minister of Trade Zulkifli Hasan released an export of 10 containers of polyester yarn worth 400,000 U.S. dollars on Saturday in Sumedang district, West Java province, to Germany, Poland, Estonia, Malaysia and India.

The minister said the shipment of the polyester yarn was a momentum to expand the export market access for Indonesian products, and support efforts to recover the national economy after the Covid-19 pandemic.

“The release of the export can be a momentum to expand the export market for Indonesian products in the future and become a driving force for the Indonesian economy during the recovery period after the pandemic,” Zulkifli said.

In the January-May 2022 period, the export value of Indonesian textiles and textile products (TTP) to the world reached 5.5 billion dollars, he said, adding that this value was up 22 percent from the same period in the previous year which was recorded at 4.2 billion dollars.

Meanwhile, the value of world textile imports in 2021 reached 403.62 billion dollars, with a growth rate in the 2020-2021 period of 22.46 percent.

The increase indicates that fashion product sales would recover globally in 2022. The top five largest textile importing countries in the world are the United States, Germany, China, France, and Vietnam.

The five countries are included in the 60 countries that become the export destinations of PT Kewalram which is a polyester yarn producer whose export was released by the Minister of Trade on Saturday.

“I appreciate PT Kewalram that continues to encourage the increase in exports by becoming one of the productive textile producers so that the company can contribute to Indonesia’s economic recovery. We will continue to support companies like this. If export-oriented companies advance, Indonesia will also advance,” said the minister.

Chairman of the Indonesian Textile Association (API) Jemmy Kartiwa Sastraatmaja said API will continue to support government policies to increase exports of Indonesian products, especially textile and textile products.

According to him, protection and regulation in the domestic textile industry are needed in order to have the same opportunities so that it can compete with foreign textile products which enter the Indonesian market.

Meanwhile, President Director of PT Kewalram Masuvathi Ramier Krishnamurthy said that his party appreciated the step taken by the Ministry of Trade which has facilitated export release activities as well as listened to the aspirations of textile business actors.

PT Kewalram is a large integrated textile company in Indonesia, that deals with spinning, embroidery, garment as well as dyeing process, and produces a wide range of textile products such as yarns, fabrics and apparel.
