Indonesia decides 1 Ramadan 1446 Hijri on March 1, 2025

1 Ramadan 1446 Hijri falls on Saturday, March 1, 2025, based on the decision of the meeting of Isbat (a session to decide 1 Ramadan) held by the Indonesian Ministry of Religious Affairs.
Jakarta (Indonesia Window) – The Indonesian government has determined that 1 Ramadan 1446 Hijri will fall on Saturday, March 1, 2025.
The decision was made at a meeting of Isbat (a session to decide 1 Ramadan) led by Indonesian Minister of Religious Affairs Nasaruddin Umar at his ministry in Jakarta, Friday.
“The Isbat meeting unanimously determined that 1 Ramadan 1446 Hijri falls on Saturday, March 1, 2025,” the minister told a press conference held after the Isbat meeting to determine 1 Ramadan 1446 H.
According to him, the meeting agreed to the decision for two reasons. “First, we have heard the presentation of the hisab (calculation) Rukyat Team of the Ministry of Religion which stated that on the rukyat (observation) day of February 28, 2025, the height of the crescent (moon) throughout the territory of the Republic of Indonesia is between: 3° 05‘ 55“ or 3.10 degrees to 4° 40‘ 96“ or 4.68 degrees,” he explained.
“With an elongation angle between 4° 47‘ 02“ or 4.78 degrees to 6° 24‘ 14“ or 6.40 degrees,” he continued.
This means that, based on the calculation, the position of the crescent moon in Indonesia during the Isbat meeting at the beginning of Ramadan 1446 Hijri has met the criteria for a minimum crescent height of three degrees and a minimum elongation angle of 6.4 degrees.
Clear crescent sightings were mainly reported in the northwest of Aceh Province, including Sabang and Banda Aceh.
This is in accordance with the new criteria set by MABIMS (Ministers of Religious Affairs of Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Singapore) in 2021.
This year, crescent observations were carried out at 125 points throughout Indonesia.
“We heard reports from a number of crescent moon observers who work under oath, from Aceh to Papua. Of the 125 points, there were two crescent moon observers in Aceh who saw the crescent moon. Both of them have also been sworn in for their statements,” the minister said.
“For these two reasons, the Isbat medeting agreed that 1 Ramadan 1446 Hijri falls on Saturday, March 1, 2025,” he stated.
The minister hopes that this year’s Ramadan can provide positive energy that is full of goodness for the nation’s journey.
“Ramadan is not just about vertical relationships (to Allah/God). but also about compassion for others, because a true Muslim does not only reflect on God, but also on humans and the surrounding environment,” he remarked.
