Jakarta (Indonesia Window) – Indonesia on Friday (June 11) received one million COVID-19 vaccine doses from Chinese firm Sinopharm for use in a private vaccination program.

With the arrival of the vaccine, Indonesia has now about two million doses of vaccine used for the so-called "Gotong Royong" (mutual cooperation) private vaccination scheme.

Earlier, on Thursday night (June 10), Indonesia received about 1.5 million doses of vaccine made by British-Swedish company AstraZeneca under the COVAX facility, an international vaccine distribution platform set up to ensure equitable access to shots for developing countries.

So far, the Indonesian government has secured 94.7 million doses of vaccines from three producers, consisting of 84.5 million doses from China’s Sinovac, 2 million doses from China’s Sinopharm and 8.2 million doses from AstraZeneca.

Indonesia expects to vaccinate 181.5 million people by next year.

Until Friday (June 11), more than 11 million people in the country have received two shots of vaccines.

The world's fourth most populous country has recorded 1.89 million coronavirus infections and 52,566 deaths since the COVID-19 pandemic hit the country in March 2020.
