Sanad in memorizing the Quran or path of the history of reading the holy book which continues to the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) is very important because it is part of the Islamic religion and is a specialty of the Muslim Ummah, which also shows the highest quality or credibility of the branch of knowledge of the Quran.

Bogor, W Java (Indonesia Window) – An Indonesian Quran memorization boarding school, Miftahul Jannah Akbar (MJA), located in Indonesia’s Cisarua sub district, Bogor district, West Java province, has recently passed 22 high school level students, who have completed the process of learning and memorizing the Quran for three years.

“Most of the students have finished memorizing all 30 chapters of the Quran, while some others haven’t,” Miftahul Jannah Akbar’s principal Sheikh Dhiahulhaq said after the ceremony of the 4th graduation and the presentation of Quran sanad in Cisarua, West Java, Sunday (July 14).

Among the 22 students who memorized the Quran, one graduate successfully completed memorizing 30 chapters and won ‘sanad’. The Quran consists of 30 chapters, 114 surahs, and has 604 pages.

Sanad in the Quran is a genealogy or path of the history of reading the Quran which continues to the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ), according to Sheikh Dhiahulhaq, while emphasizing that sanad in tahfizhul Quran (memorizing the Quran) is very important because sanad is part of Islam and that is the specialty of the Muslims.

“Sanad also shows the highest quality or credibility of the branch of knowledge of the Quran in Islam. Sanad of the Quran is awarded with a diploma for the best memorization of the Quran based on the lineage from students to their teachers upto the Rasulullah (ﷺ),” he added.

Sheikh Dhiahulhaq pointed out that the process of learning and memorizing the Quran requires extraordinary struggle and dedication.

“Memorization of the Quran is a mandate from Allah ﷻ, so it must be maintained and reserved. This memorization must continue and be repeated and deepened so that the Quran always stays in the heart and in the practice of daily life,” he explained.

He further emphasized that “the Quran memorizers belong to the family of Allah ﷻ, so they are the light among people with great responsibility.”

He hoped that the Quran memorizers who have graduated from Miftahul Jannah Akbar would become “defenders of the truth and purity of Islam.”

“If someone becomes an entrepreneur, he or she should make his or her business beneficial to many people. His or her struggle should be made in way to the Creator. If someone becomes a teacher or lecturer, he or she should enlighten students and prepare them to be scientists who fight for the religion of Allah ﷻ. If someone becomes an official or a leader, he or she should make every policy for something that is useful and approved by Allah ﷻ,” he said.

The principal also reminded that the Quran memorizers keep on devoting to their parents and not forget the services and sacrifices of their teachers.

Although the main goal and activity of Miftahul Jannah Akbar is memorizing the Quran, some of the graduates like to continue their education to universities by taking majors other than Islamic studies.

“There are those who will continue their studies. Some of them have even been accepted at the Jakarta-based Muhammadiyah University, the Yogyakarta-based Indonesian Islamic University, the Makassar-based National Islamic University, and one alumnus is applying Oxford University in England. If Allah willing,” Sheikh Dhiahulhaq noted.

Jakarta is Indonesia’s capital city, Yogyakarta is one of the country’s province in the central part of Java island, and Makassar is a city in South Sulawesi province.

In addition, he added, most of the alumni will serve at their alma mater, namely Miftahul Jannah Akbar boarding school.
