Jakarta (Indonesia Window) – The capacity of power plant in 2019 reached 69.1 gigawatts (GW), an increase from the previous year’s 64.9 GW, Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Minister Arifin Tasrif said at a press conference here on Thursday (Jan 9).

The minister said the capacity of the plant in 2019 increased by 4.2 GW from that of the previous year, and was the highest achievement in an effort to realize the Program on the Acceleration of 35 GW Power Plant Development.

“In 2019 the capacity of power plants has reached 69.1 GW, an increase of 4.2 GW from 64.9 GW in 2018. While the target for 2020 is 74.8 GW,” explained Arifin.

He added that most of the 35 GW power plant development projects are  currently in the construction phase.

Meanwhile, the ministry’s Director General of Electricity, Rida Mulyana, said that the increase in the capacity of the 4.2 GW power plant in 2019 was the biggest in terms of power generation.

“And in the future, there will be an additional 50 GW,” said Rida, while explaining, the 4.2 GW increase was sourced from the inclusion of 71 new power plants, 10 of which coming from Steam Power Plants (PLTU) which have a total capacity around 3,017 megawatts (MW).
