Indonesia encourages strategic cooperation with South Korea

The Special Strategic Partnership were encouraged during the 2nd Vice Ministers’ Strategic Dialogue between Indonesia’s Deputy Foreign Minister and South Korea’s First Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs on Wednesday (13/3) in Seoul.

 

Jakarta (Indonesia Window) – Indonesia and the Republic of Korea (ROK) are committed to continuing to strengthen the Special Strategic Partnership to advance various mutually beneficial collaborations.

The effort to strengthen the Special Strategic Partnership were emphasized during the 2nd Vice Ministers’ Strategic Dialogue between the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, Pahala Nugraha Mansury, and the First Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs of the ROK, Kim Hong Kyun, on Wednesday (13/3) in Seoul.

The meeting also emphasized the importance of continuing various Indonesia-ROK bilateral mechanisms such as the Joint Commission’s Meeting (JCM) at the Minister of Foreign Affairs level, Strategic Dialogue, High Level Dialogue on Investment (HLDI) and the Joint Committee on Economic Cooperation (JCEC) to encourage various mutually beneficial cooperation between both countries.

In the field of economic cooperation, the officials at the two foreign affairs ministries agreed to optimize the implementation of the Indonesia-Korea Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (IK-CEPA) and encourage the implementation and expansion of cooperation in strategic sectors such as the development of the electric vehicle (EV) ecosystem and EV batteries in Indonesia, the energy transition, infrastructure, health, critical mineral supply chain cooperation, employment, and maritime.

They also reaffirmed the commitment of the two countries to continue strengthening partnerships within the framework of ASEAN-ROK, MIKTA, APEC, G20, supporting each other’s candidacy in various multilateral fora, as well as exchanging views on the issues of Palestine, Myanmar and the Korean Peninsula.

Kim Hong Kyun also expressed the ROK’s support and readiness to assist Indonesia’s accession process to the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD).

On the sidelines of the visit, Pahala Nugraha Mansury in the company of representatives from state oil/gas company Pertamina, Pupuk Indonesia (state fertilizer company) and BNI (one of state banks), also held one-on-one meetings with a number of well-known ROK companies such as POSCO International, POSCO, Future M, Hyundai, Motor Company, KIND, and KIC , in order to support the ‘Indonesia Go Global’ initiative and encourage investment and partnerships between Indonesian state-owned enterprises and partners in the ROK.

The Indonesia-ROK Strategic Dialogue is a biannual bilateral dialogue mechanism at the deputy minister of foreign affairs level.

The last meeting was held in 2017 in Jakarta to follow up on various agreements at the Joint Commission Meeting (JCM) at the Indonesia-ROK Foreign Minister level, especially in the economic sector.
