Indonesia’s primary school strengthens cooperation in Brunei

A delegation from the Pontianak Bawamai Elementary School in Indonesia’s province of West Kalimantan paid a goodwill visit to Brunei Darussalam on July 6-8, 2023 to strengthen friendship and the educational cooperation. (The Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs)

The educational cooperation with Brunei Darussalam carried out by the Pontianak Bawamai Elementary School in Indonesia’s province of West Kalimantan, received appreciation from the Chargé d’Affaires ad interim of the Indonesian Embassy in Bandar Seri Begawan, Irwan Iding.

 

Jakarta (Indonesia Window) – A delegation from the Pontianak Bawamai Elementary School in Indonesia’s West Kalimantan province, paid a goodwill visit to Brunei Darussalam on July 6-8, 2023 in an effort to strengthen friendship and the educational cooperation.

During the visit, the delegation also met with the Chargé d’Affaires ad interim of the Indonesian Embassy in Bandar Seri Begawan, Irwan Iding, the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a written statement as quoted by Indonesia Window on Wednesday.

In his remarks, Irwan appreciated the effort made by the Pontianak Bawamai Elementary School in enhancing the educational cooperation between the two countries.

Visits between teachers from Indonesia and Brunei Darussalam have been carried out frequently, and this shows that the educational cooperation between the two countries has been running closely, Irwan said, in the hope that the visit would provide real benefits to the education sector in Indonesia.

Meanwhile, the Principal of Pontianak Bawamai Elementary School, Hatta Abdulhaji, said that the purpose of the delegation’s visit to Brunei Darussalam was to provide positive insights and experiences for schools and students in Indonesia.

During the visit to Brunei Darussalam, the delegation also visited the Brunei Malay Teachers Association (PGGMB) in Sungai Akar and closely observed the system and of teaching and learning atmosphere in the neighboring country.

In addition, they also visited several interesting places in Brunei Darussalam, including the Nurul Iman Palace, the Jame ‘Asr Hassanil Bolkiah Mosque, the Omar Ali Saifuddin Mosque, and the Royal Instruments Museum.

During the visit, they also met with Haji Jamal bin Haji Kahar, Chairman of PGGMB, and Haji Badar bin Haji Ali, Vice President of PGGMB, to discuss efforts that could be made for the progress of their respective schools.

The Indonesian Embassy in Bandar Seri Begawan continuously provides support and encourages cooperation in the education sector, including the implementation of cooperation agreements that have been reached by educational institutions from the two countries.

Indonesia and Brunei Darussalam have close educational cooperation, as seen from the agreement and cooperative relationship between PGGMB and the Association of Teachers of the Republic of Indonesia (PGRI) which has existed for a long time.

The two teacher organizations frequently interact and are involved in meetings such as the meeting of Nusantara Teachers and the ASEAN Teachers’ Council Convention.

The delegation of the Pontianak Bawamai Elementary School which consisted of 40 people, including the principal, teachers, staff and students, also visited PGGMB in Bandar Seri Begawan.
