Jakarta (Indonesia Window) – The International Energy Agency (IEA) at the end of July released a special report on Indonesia in the IEA World Energy Investment 2020 under the title “Attracting Private Investment to Sustainable Recoveries: The Case of Indonesia’s Power Sector”.

“The report is a form of IEA’s commitment in supporting Indonesia to restore the national energy sector in the country and to face the global dynamics and the COVID-19 pandemic, which has significantly impacted the world economic development, including the development of the energy sector,” spokesperson of the Indonesian Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources Agung Pribadi said here on Monday (Aug 3).

In addition to the ministry, the state-owned electricity company (PT. PLN) and several other institutions were also involved in preparing the report and supporting the energy transition towards a cleaner and more sustainable energy system.

The IEA report also mentions investment and financing trends in the Indonesian electricity sector, quantification of capital expenditure, projected-demand with sustainability scenarios, and summarizes national macroeconomic performance.

Topics about the availability of public and private funds, and identification of the main problems affecting investment decisions in renewable energy power plants and alternative energy sources, are also highlighted in the report.

The report has been distributed to the French Employers’ Association.

As a form of IEA’s commitment to support Indonesia, the agency is planning a meeting of the Indonesian Embassy in Paris and the French Employers’ Association with the Indonesian Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources in September 2020.

The meeting aims at promoting renewable energy investment in the archipelagic country.

Indonesia and IEA have established cooperation since 2006.

In 2015, Indonesia officially became a member of the IEA association.

Both establish Joint Work Programs (JWP) which are continuously updated.
