Indonesia’s health product export to Myanmar expected to increase

Jakarta (Indonesia Window) – Indonesia’s health product exports to Myanmar are expected to increase with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding on Health between the Indonesian Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Health and Sports of Myanmar recently.

The agreement was reached during the bilateral meeting between the Indonesian Minister of Health, Dr. dr. Terawan Agus Putranto, with Myanmar’s Minister of Health and Sports, Dr. Mynt Htwe, in Jakarta, Friday (Nov 8), the Government News Network (JPP) reported as quoted by Indonesia Window here on Tuesday.

The Memorandum of Understanding covers public health cooperation; health services; pharmaceuticals and medical devices; disease prevention and control;  human resources development on health; and health research development.

“We are very pleased to see the potential for cooperation that can be built, especially that on pharmaceuticals and medical devices,” said Minister Mynt Htwe.

Meanwhile, Minister of Health Terawan said that the government should facilitate Indonesia’s pharmaceutical industry and medical devices in an effort develop cooperation with its partner Myanmar.

The national pharmaceutical company, PT Kalbe Farma, welcomed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding on Health between the Indonesian Ministry of Health and its Myanmar counterpart.

The intergovernmental cooperation is expected to increase the value of sales of Indonesian health products to Myanmar by US$16 million (US$1 = Rp. 14,090) in 2019 and US$41 million in 2025 through the construction of a pharmaceutical and nutritional factory of PT Kalbe Farma in that country.

The facility will have the Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) certification from Indonesia.
