Indonesian president, Swazi king witness signing of MOU on economic cooperation

Indonesian President Joko Widodo and Swazi King Mswati III witnessed the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) in order to strengthen bilateral cooperation between the two countries at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta on Thursday (August 25, 2022). The memorandum of understanding was signed by Indonesian Minister of Foreign Affairs Retno L.P. Marsudi and her Swazi counterpart Thulisile Dladla. (The Indonesian Cabinet Secretariat)

The priority of cooperation between Indonesia and Eswatini covers the fields of trade, investment, mining, energy, green economy, agriculture, infrastructure and development, tourism, and others related to the health sector.

 

Jakarta (Indonesia Window) – Indonesian President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) and Swazi King Mswati III witnessed the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) in order to strengthen bilateral cooperation between the two countries at the Merdeka Palace here on Thursday.

The memorandum of understanding signed by Indonesian Minister of Foreign Affairs Retno L.P. Marsudi and her Swazi counterpart Thulisile Dladla is the opening door for the economic cooperation between the Republic of Indonesia and the Kingdom of Eswatini.

“This MoU is very important to open a gate to enhance cooperation, especially economic cooperation between Indonesia and Eswatini,” Foreign Minister Retno said in her statement after the event.

In the memorandum of understanding, the Indonesian minister noted that there are several areas of cooperation that will be the priority or focus of attention of the two countries.

These areas include the fields of trade, investment, mining, energy, green economy, agriculture, infrastructure and development and tourism as well as things related to health.

“Later on from time to time we will hold meetings to follow up on the extent to which the cooperation is carried out,” she added.

After the signing of the memorandum of understanding, the Swazi king will also welcome the private sector from Indonesia along with the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KADIN), to discuss further cooperation that can be carried out as a follow-up to the signed memorandum.

Also accompanying President Jokowi at the event were Indonesia’s Minister of State-Owned Enterprises Erick Thohir and the country’s Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung.

Also present on the occasion was the Chairman of KADIN Arsjad Rasjid along with two other KADIN officials, namely Garibaldi Thohir and Hilmi Panigoro.
