Cumulatively, the number of foreign tourists visiting Indonesia through the main entrance from January to June 2022 reached 743,210 visits, an increase of 929.66 percent compared to that in the same period last year.
Jakarta (Indonesia Window) – The Statistics Indonesia (BPS) recorded that the number of foreign tourist arrivals to Indonesia reached 345,440 in June 2022, an increase of 1,973.96 percent compared to June 2021.
This figure also grew by 62.69 percent compared to May 2022.
The increase in foreign tourist visits to the country as seen in the April, May and June charts this year shows the improvement in mobility and handling of health problems in Indonesia, BPS Head Margo Yuwono told a press conference in here on Monday.
Cumulatively, the number of foreign tourists visiting Indonesia through the main entrance from January to June 2022 reached 743,210 visits, an increase of 929.66 percent compared to the same period last year, Margo explained.
Meanwhile, foreign tourist visits in June 2021 were recorded at 16,656 and in May 2022 there were 212,332 visits.
According to Margo, the growth in the number of foreign tourist visits is good news for Indonesia, considering that tourism is a sector that affects other sectors.
However, Margo said that the current condition has not fully recovered compared to the period before the COVID-19 pandemic hit, or the January-June 2020 period. In the pre-pandemic period, the number of foreign tourists visiting Indonesia reached 2,131,737.
“So (current conditions) are better than 2021 but have not recovered from 2020,” said Margo.
Based on the entrance of foreign tourists, he continued, Ngurah Rai Airport in Bali was the largest contributor, with the number of visits reaching 181,545, followed by Soekarno-Hatta Airport in Banten province received 85,587 visits, and Batam in Riau Islands province which received 39,649 visits.
Based on nationality, the most foreign tourist visits in June 2022 came from Australia with 64,500 visits, an increase of 87.60 percent compared to May 2022. Most of them used visas on arrival when they arrived at Ngurah Rai and Soekarno-Hatta airports.
