Jakarta (Indonesia Window) – A total of 10 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine produced by Chinese pharmaceutical company Sinovac in the form of raw materials or bulk arrived in the country via Soekarno-Hatta Airport, Tangerang district, Banten province, on Sunday afternoon.
“Thank God, today we have another 10 million doses of vaccine in bulk, to be produced by Bio Farma (Indonesia’s vaccine manufacturer) as a COVID-19 vaccine,” said the Health Ministry’s Secretary General Oscar Primadi in a press statement welcoming the arrival of the vaccine.
With the arrival of the 17th stage of the vaccine, the total number of vaccines that Indonesia has received is 104.7 million doses, consisting of 94.5 million doses of Sinovac vaccine, 8.2 million doses of AstraZeneca, and 2 million doses of Sinopharm.
Oscar emphasized that the government continues to make efforts to secure vaccines for the implementation of COVID-19 vaccination and achieve herd immunity by inoculating around 70 percent of the total population.
At least 426.8 million doses of the COVID-19 vaccine are needed to achieve this goal, he added.
Indonesia uses three vaccines against the coronavirus, namely AstraZeneca made by a British-Swedish company, Sinovac and Sinopharm which are the last two from China. These three vaccines have been included in the Emergency Use Listing (EUL) or the emergency use list from the World Health Organization (WHO).
