Indonesia prioritizes constructive approach for regional stability

Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono was present as a speaker at two panel sessions, namely a dialogue on the Myanmar issue (January 22, 2025) and a panel discussion on efforts to navigate conflicts in the Asia Pacific (January 23, 2025), at the annual meeting of the World Economic Forum (WEF) which took place on 20-24 January 2025, in Davos, Switzerland. Collaboration as well as cooperation with neighboring countries in the region, and the global community are Indonesia’s constructive approach for regional stability.

 

Jakarta (Indonesia Window) – Indonesia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sugiono, said that Indonesia wants to foster cooperation as well as collaboration with neighboring countries, friendly countries in the region, and the global community.

“We will develop a constructive approach,” said Minister Sugiono who was present as a speaker at two panel sessions, namely a dialogue on the Myanmar issue (Jan. 22) and a panel discussion related to efforts to navigate conflicts in the Asia Pacific (Jan 23), at the annual meeting of the World Economic Forum (WEF) which took place on 20-24 January 2025.

Sugiono also said that Indonesian diplomacy under the leadership of President Prabowo Subianto would be directed to realizing the mandate of the Indonesian Constitution, including maintaining the sovereignty of the Republic of Indonesia and realizing prosperity for the Indonesian people.

Indonesia’s joining BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa) was also highlighted in the discussion, according to the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in a written statement on Saturday.

The minister emphasized that Indonesia’s presence in BRICS, in addition to garnering economic benefits, is also an effort to bridge the differences in interests of developed and developing countries in various multilateral forums.

“The prerequisite for growth is peace and stability. That is why Indonesia is open to cooperation, because we have an obligation to support national priorities and serve the Indonesian people,” he explained.

The second panel discussion session under the theme ‘Navigating Asia’s Hotspot’ (Jan. 23) was also attended by the President of Timor-Leste, Speaker of the Philippine Parliament, President of the Council on Foreign Relations think-tank, and the head of the Zurich Insurance Group Asia Pacific.

The President of Timor Leste, Ramos Horta, appreciated Indonesia’s diplomatic efforts and its role in helping Timor-Leste’s membership in ASEAN.

Zurich Insurance Group’s leadership said that Indonesia’s constructive role has helped reduce tensions in the region and supported stability in Asia and the Pacific.

In Davos, Minister Sugiono likewise held a number of bilateral meetings, namely with the Vice President of Yemen, the Chancellor of Austria, the Foreign Minister of Finland, the Foreign Minister of Saudi Arabia, the Foreign Minister of Tunisia, and the Minister of State of Palestine for foreign affairs and expatriates.

In addition to discussing bilateral cooperation, the issue of Palestine was also raised in various bilateral meetings.
