Jakarta (Indonesia Window) – Indonesia’s automotive industry continues to enhance to the global level, indicated by the export of completely built-up (CBU) vehicles to more than 80 countries, according to a statement from the Indonesian Ministry of Industry received by Indonesia Window here on Saturday.

The five main export destinations for Indonesia’s CBU vehicles are the Philippines, Saudi Arabia, Japan, Mexico and Vietnam.

“The automotive industry is one of the seven prioritized development sectors in the Road Map for Making Indonesia 4.0,” Indonesian Industry Minister Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita said in the statement.

The minister added that the potential of Indonesia’s automotive industry is supported by Indonesia’s market share in ASEAN of 32 percent, or is the largest in the Southeast Asia region.

“In 2019, more than one million vehicles were sold domestically, and 300,000 were exported worldwide,” Agus Gumiwang noted.

Although the automotive industry is one of many sectors that has been severely affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, it is increasingly making a significant contribution to the national economy.
