The evacuation has been made from Sudan on the second phase and not only has the Indonesian government evacuated its citizens from the conflict-hit country, but also foreign nationals.
Jakarta (Indonesia Window) – On the second phase of the evacuation, the Indonesian government has returned 363 Indonesian citizens from Sudan by flag-carrier Garuda Indonesia GA 991 which landed in the country on Sunday (April 30).
With 385 Indonesian citizens returning to Indonesia on April 28, a total of 748 Indonesians have been evacuated and returned to their homeland.
Not only has the Indonesian government evacuated its citizens from Sudan, but also a number of foreign nationals on the second phase of the evacuation.
The Indonesian citizens who have been returned to their homeland are housed at Pondok Gede Hajj Dormitory in East Jakarta for further treatment by the relevant ministries/institutions, before being returned to their respective areas of origin.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs expresses its gratitude to all relevant ministries/institutions that have supported the evacuation efforts.
The military conflict in Sudan between the Sudan Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces occurred on April 15, 2023.
This conflict has threatened the national security situation in Sudan, causing the Indonesian Embassy in Khartoum declared an alert on April 16, 2023. With the escalation of the conflict, on April 20, 2023, the embassy declared a higher alert status.
